Our Breton terroir: Brittany in every one of our products

It is Brittany, its land, its women and men, that shape the identity and taste of our products. Our territorial roots are at the heart of our production process, from the selection of our raw materials to our surrounding climate.

The 4 pillars of our terroir

Our water

The water we use comes from a granite fault directly beneath the distillery. Naturally filtered by Breton rock over millennia, it brings a unique mineral quality to our spirits.

Our grains

We select conventional Breton wheat and French, Breton and organic barley for the production of our Breton whisky. Our partnerships with local farmers are part of a short supply chain approach and the promotion of Breton agricultural terroir.

Our apples

The apples destined for our Fine de Bretagne AOC and our Pommeau de Bretagne AOC come from our own orchards managed into organic fermings methods located in few kilometers from the distillerye.  We also source from other arborists within 50 km of the distillery, mainly grown organically. The varietal diversity of Breton apple trees contributes to the aromatic complexity of our eaux-de-vie.

Our maritime climate

The north coast of Brittany, between Armor and Argoat, offers a temperate, humid and iodised maritime microclimate, which directly influences the ageing of our spirits in casks. The slow breathing of the wood under this particular climate gives our whiskies and eaux-de-vie their characteristic smoothness and roundness.

The official recognition of our terroir

GI Whisky Breton

In 2015, Distillerie Warenghem participated in the creation of the Whisky Breton Geographical Indication, enabling the defence and promotion of a distinctive expertise. Any whisky bearing this designation guarantees production entirely carried out in Brittany: brewing, fermentation, distillation and ageing.

AOC Fine de Bretagne

Deeply committed to the promotion of Breton products, the distillery worked with the association Les 17 Hermines to obtain the AOC Fine de Bretagne. Since 2015, this traditional cider spirit has benefited from official recognition.

AOC Pommeau de Bretagne

Pommeau de Bretagne, born from the blending of apple must and Fine de Bretagne AOC, has been protected by an AOC since 1997. This quality mark guarantees the origin of ingredients and respect for Breton expertise.
